Our Purpose:

Although we are not related, CAREA and the CAREA Partner Centres are Family.  Our core purpose is to educate to the highest possible current standards.   Providing the public with exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable clinical, reflexology practitioners.

Our Values:

Are simple and they are Integrity, Respect and Trust

Our purpose and our values means that we always improve, develop and innovate to remain as providers of the highest quality education.   Remaining true to traditional practices, whilst embracing progressive skills. As a family we are driven by our purpose which is to invest in the reflexology practitioners of the future.

Our History:  CAREA today are thriving and expanding.   For those who may be interested, here is a glimpse back in time …

2022 – Today

We acknowledged the need to align reflexology training with the needs of modern society in the move towards understanding that most often, it is not just one health intervention that makes someone better when they are poorly.   And when we are poorly, it may be something we are doing, or not doing, that is also involved in being poorly.   Reflexology training needed to understand life holistically and understand that integration into other health care systems is the way ahead and so Applied Reflexology for Integrated Medicine was born with amazing support from OTHM and Centralia became Centralia Advanced Reflexology Education Authority with the status of Recognised Centre with OTHM.  Credits awarded move from 79 to 120 in line with an academic year at degree level.

With an ever increasing need to have recognisable, comparable skills, CAREA move away from each Centre ‘doing their own thing’ as far as reflexology foundation treatment and techniques are concerned and all the Centres 100% embrace the need to stabilise and standardise and agree that teaching the CAREA Matrix of Duopody, NEPIP and CALM will elevate our teaching methods to previously unknown heights.

2016 – 2022

More moving forward and progression as Agored Cymru and Centralia move the qualification to Ofqual (still with Qualifications Wales), new units are written and the qualification has a name change to Agored Cymru Level 5  Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology, still with 79 credits, but the opportunity for a significant update in knowledge and skills with the introduction of a Centralia bespoke treatment  NEPIP (which then transferred to the OTHM Level 5 Diploma).

2011 – 2016

A new level for reflexology training is born!

Up until now there had only been a level 3 Diploma (two very different versions pre and post 2010 but called the same thing).   Reflexology training had moved away from membership organisations and associations and were firmly in the hands of Awarding Organisations.  Sue Alma Evans had been an Association school for many years, but as they changed their focus away from education and onto looking after their members, it left a gap and so Centralia filled that gap!

Faced with the opportunity to change and improve. the race was on to develop.   Agored Cymru who are the Awarding Organisation for Wales were willing to embrace their own challenge and spent many months helping and collaborating in the writing of new units for reflexology.   Finally they were fit for purpose, were presented to a Board of health professionals, and the three reflexology units were designated at level 5 and the business and Anatomy units at level 4, the Skills Sector changed to Nursing and Subjects and Vocations Allied to Medicine and was placed on the QALL pillar of learning.    All of this was done for Sue’s own students at Inspira Academy, but as others got to know about it, they asked if they could teach it too.   In those days, as the other trainers were in England, Sue and Paul had to become the Recognised Centre for Agored Cymru and Centralia was born to be the lynch pin between the Trainers and their learners and the Awarding Organisation.

It was a learn on the job task and mistakes were made, but most of those mistakes led to improvements and now 14 years later, although still far from perfect we are proud of all that we achieved.   It will soon be time to hand over to someone else within the CAREA family, and we will do this confident that our values and our purpose will be upheld … and improved upon!

Always Onwards and Upwards ~ Sue and Paul
